A Century Of Speed

The motorcycling event of the millennium will be the Festival hosted by the New Zealand Classic Motorcycle Racing Register to be held at the Pukekohe Park Raceway on February 5th and 6th 2000.

The Pukekohe Classic Festival\'s worldwide reputation as one of the world\'s major historic events has been confirmed with the recent visits by 15 times world champion Giacomo Agostini and 4 MV Agustas Grand Prix bikes last year. Prior to this we saw the fabulous trio of Supercharged 1939 Grand Prix bikes with John Surtees.

These bikes are the \'creme de la creme\' of motorcycles and negotiations are now under way to repeat this quality of bikes and riders for the 2000 event.

Competitive motorcycling probably began when the second motorcycle was imported into New Zealand at the beginning of the century, and the festival will display and demonstrate racing bikes from 1912 to 1999 in a \'Century of Speed\'. These will include the famous Britten and New Zealand\'s own GP challenge, the BSL.

Events will also include a Classic Trial, a competitive Road Rally, and a Classic Track Parade, Trade stalls and Classic Bike Club displays. Results from last years racing are available online. Awards will be presented for the best displays and individual machines.

For those addicted to racing, an action packed weekend will see over 250 Classic Race Bikes competing in 50 hotly contested events over the two days.

Arguably THE major motorcycling event in New Zealand. The 2000 event also marks the 21st anniversary of the Racing Register and its Pukekohe Classic Festival.
