A4DE: Ballard Takes Masters Class

Posted: Mon 09 Jul 2007

Masters rider Geoff Ballard has finished off strongly in the Motocross section of the 2007 Australian Four Day Enduro to comfortably win the class overall.

Ballard had an unbeatable lead coming into the final day – with a DNF result the only way he could have relinquished the number one position.

However Ballard stepped it up a level on the final day, winning his heat comfortably and finishing off what has been a great week of riding for the name synonymous with motorcycle racing in Australia.

“Yeah it was good – I’ve had a good week overall pretty much,” Ballard said.

“It’s been fun riding with all the guys – they’re a great bunch of guys and we just do our own thing back there which is good.

“It’s the biggest event of the year for us, without the international races, so it’s pretty cool. The first one I went to was in 1979, I’ve been to most since, and it’s still a good thing.”

Ballard took a moment to praise the efforts of event organisers, admitting that this year’s A4DE ranked up there with the best of the events he has been taking part in for nearly 30 years.

“The trail’s been good and if it had rained it would probably have been a hard race, a really hard race.

“The most important thing as far as a competitor goes is that the special tests are good and they’ve all been great.

“The trails were excellent – Boris has done a good job there and everything has run smoothly from what I’ve been able to see, so I think that everyone should be pretty happy.”
