August 9: New Zealand\'s Josh Coppins produced a startling come-from-behind ride at round 13 in Luxembourg this morning.
Scoring 8th and 5th in the two 45-minute races, Coppins has maintained his position at 7th in the 250cc motocross world rankings.
The 22-year-old from Motueka was forced to battle back from a crash in the first corner of the opening race.
He picked himseld up and set about demolishing the field. He was already up to 18th place at the end of the first lap, was 15th a lap later, then 11th on lap three. By lap four he was 10th and was 6th by lap nine, pressuring American Ryan Hughes. But the pace had taken its toll on the tyres.
\"At the 30-minute mark there were no knobs left on my rear tyre. The track was very, very hard. There were black tyre marks on the soil. I had fitted the hardest compound Dunlop rubber available but it still wasn\'t enough.\"
Four-time former world champion Stefan Everts, the Belgian on his comeback ride from a season-ruining injury, and American Mark Jones then re-passed the stuggling Coppins and relegated him to 8th at the finish.
With Pirelli brand tyres fitted for the second outing, Coppins managed to run with the leaders in the second race but said the rubber \"didn\'t have the feeling of the Dunlops\" and he slipped back to finish 5th.
Frenchman Frederic Bolley (Honda) won today\'s Luxembourg GP with 2-2 finishes, strengthening his position at second in the overall standings. German Pit Beirer continues to lead the championship. He finihsed 6-1 today.
