Big Weekend for Rees at Phillip Island:

Whakatane’s Tony Rees took his Yamaha R1 to ninth overall at the rain and wind affected round one of the Australian Superbike Championship, on Phillip Island over last weekend April 2/3 2005. Rees qualified twelfth and then picked up a ninth and tenth respectively in races one and two. Race three was postponed until after the second World Superbike race, which was then called off due to the weather - then the meeting was abandoned.

The field was a who’s who of Australian road racing and they were all out to make their mark at the beginning of their season. Distributor teams represented all four major Japanese brands and Rees found the pace in Australia was well up on New Zealand.

"The field is really going hard and it has been a while since I raced here and it is going to take a while to get on the pace, but it is only round one and there is a total of seven rounds," said Rees in Australia today.

The next round is in New South Wales at Eastern Creek on April 30th - May 1st.
