File photo - Stefan Merriman in Italy:
Words from Anita Merriman:
Check out Stefan's WEBSITE: the Kiwi born Enduro ace (across the ditch they claim him as an Aussie) for photos, his profile, events calendar, etc.
Well, who said Enduro Champions are having fun!!!!!
The Merriman family left 38degree heat to minus 2degrees in 24 hours!!! Stefan managed to 'acquire' business class seats to England for his return trip to Italy, compliments of Cathay Pacific. From then on in it has been quite an ordeal for the family. Immediately on return Stefan and family travelled to Spain for testing, temperature not above 5degrees, caught the flu, had to continue riding because he needed to get his suspension right. Rode 4 days in the pouring rain with the flu. Returned to Italy to a dumping of snow and there for 2 days and then flew to Sicily for the first round of the Italian Championships.
The event was held in the town of Linguaglossa, a short distance from the coast of Catania and in the volcanic region. This area witnessed a big eruption two years ago so the terrain is mostly volcanic rock.
4 rounds of 45km, total of 180km. Each round had 1 extreme test, 1 motocross test and 2 enduro tests. This is a 2 day event.
Day 1( 26th Feb) saw the event run under torrential rain (again). I am unable to confirm any placing's as the 'live results' promised do not seem to have eventuated!!!
Lexy however text'd me to say Stefan was placed second after (I think) Belometti of Italy, who finished 2 seconds ahead of him, Albergoni was 3rd and Bazzuri 4th. Stefan is on the big 450 this year. I understand Belometti is on a 250 2 stroke.
These are only provisional results until I hear differently.
Our little KJ (Krista Jane) absolutely loved watching her Dad race from her Mum's front pack. With her Mum keeping her warm she was oblivious to the rain and noise.
Sorry folks, this is all I have at this time.
Regards Anita
