The annual Queen\'s Birthday Motocross at Tokoroa was a huge success. The juniors had a cold day on Saturday but luckily no rain. It was incredible to see over 25 60cc mini motocross riders fronting up to the startline on their specially built large mini circuit. This class was won by Taupo\'s Lee McKinstry. The Junior 13-16 years 85cc class was won by Manawatu\'s Mark Pimm riding a Yamaha. This was Mark\'s first victory at a major event in New Zealand. This effort was even more remarkable because he beat current National Champion Mason Phillips of Mt Maunganui.
Sunday was an absolutely brilliant day with clear skies and perfect track conditions. National Champion Michael Cotter won the 250cc and Open classes. This follows his success earlier this year in the 250 and Open National titles and his recent victory in the Open MX class at the Suzuki NZ 4 stroke champs.
The National 125cc class proved to be a very tight 3 way battle and was eventually won by youngster Peter Broxholme who won 2 out of the 3 motos. This class saw the return of former New Zealand Champion Andrew Hardisty, who was decided to campaign the coming year on a 125cc Yamaha. Andrew finished second in the class with a victory in the final moto. This duo was pushed hard by the eventual third place getter, Andrew Pollock of Cambridge.
Everyone knows that Tokoroa is one of the more spectacular tracks on the National scene and this was proved by Corrie Sargeant when he broke both his footpegs off his Yamaha YZ250 when landing after a jump and this was after they had already been professionally rewelded.
