FIREWORKS erupted and a crowd of about 500 cheered as motorcycle daredevil Robbie Knievel jumped a 200-foot-wide chasm of the Grand Canyon on May 20.
The stunt rider easily cleared the gorge, 2,500 feet above the canyon floor at the Hualapai Indian Reservation. Knievel soared 55 feet into the air over the 200-foot-wide gorge at 90 mph on an ordinary 500cc motorcycle and without a parachute, despite his mother\'s pleas to wear one, saying it would create too much drag. It was his second attempt to jump the Grand Canyon.
