Townley wins Christmas weekend Moto-X.
Santa has barely left New Zealand and the nineteen year old MX sensation, Ben Townley, has already been on his factory KTM getting in some worthwhile racing practice. The moto-cross ace from Taupo walked five out of six heats in the 125cc and open class races taking the chequered flag before the likes of Coppins, King and Cooper at the Whakatane Christmas Moto-Cross weekend.
As if the six heats were not enough, Townley jumped onto his 450cc KTM machine to win the feature race as well as the overall in both classes.
The crowd had more than a Christmas surprise to see these current and ex GP stars busting berms at the Awakaponga track.
“ I love racing in front of my New Zealand fans especially with great guys like Josh and Darryl. We had such an awesome time. I’m off for a few days over the New Year and then I’ll be making the most of my training in NZ before heading back to Europe for the 2004 GP season” smiled the teenager.
2004 will certainly be a year that will see this motocross prodigy going head to head with the world’s best 125cc MX racers. No doubt that BT’s sheer determination and will to win could see the youngster claiming his and New Zealand’s first world title in the MX2 GP class – what a New Year’s wish come true that would be!
