The two signed books from both Taupo and Ardmore were very special. They sit beside Niki's bed and they mean so much, Thank you everyone for all of the support.
Niki has had his first outside visitors today. Nigel and Waka Smith and Max McDermitt came to visit Niki this morning. We are all feeling somewhat cheated right at this point in time as when Nigel walked in Niki gave him the biggest smile ever.
Niki remains in ICU and on the ventilator. His lungs are still of concern for the ICU team but in himself Niki seems to be getting better every day.
Niki begged Gary to bring him over his blue powerade last night and the nurse said that maybe he could rinse his mouth out with it BUT not to swallow as he has no control over his muscles and it could go down the wrong hole. Kay took the powerade over this morning and the first couple of mouthfuls were spat out as requested BUT the third promptly went down the hatch as both Mother and Nurse looked on stunned and tricked. Niki's only comment was the shrug of two shoulders and a sorry followed by a smile. Gary and I went in after and said we have a bone to pick with him, he just grinned with "I got you" sort of a grin and that was that!
We are all going over to sit in the square today. Niki is allowed to go outside for an hour today with a portable ventilator. This is to get his night/day distinction back. Niki's nightmares are getting a bit better and he is able to sort them out in his head a bit more.
The visit by the boys this morning has given Niki the biggest lift and he constantly asks to see people. For the moment though Niki is in ICU and visitors are restricted. When Niki is moved to the spinal unit the rules will be a lot more relaxed.
We are simply blown away with the sheer support and concern that everyone has shown. We are getting over 30 e-mails a day!!! Thank you again everyone for your support.
We are also quite concerned about the number of freak accidents that have happened over the past five weeks, do not let this scare anyone, accidents happen. Niki is concerned that everyone should wear all protective clothing everytime they ride, although this might not save them entirely from damage every little bit helps. That is protective clothing everytime they ride!!!!
Thanks again.
Katie, Niki, Gary and Kay.
