At the rain-interrupted event held on the Giles Property on Brookby Rd Hawksbury (at the end of the back straight of the Hawksbury Road Race circuit of the 60s and 70s).
The strong North Island Team retained the North Vs South Motocross Title, with 584 points to the South’s 471.
In the four classes contested, the South won only one, the Veterans class. This was mainly due to the efforts of Christchurch’s Graham Allen, who because of the injuries incurred by the South Team, rode back to back in both the Senior 250cc class and then rode block for the South in the Veterans class.
The sad note of the event was Andrew Hardisty, now resident in Invercargill and riding for the South, who broke his leg while contesting the 250cc class.
Results:
Senior 125cc, North 170 points, South 94 points.
Senior 250cc, North 179 points, South 85 points.
Veterans, North 96 points, South 168 point.
Juniors, North 139 points, South 124 point.
Total North 584 points, South 471 points.
