New Zealand’s top motocross riders gather this weekend in Blenhiem, for the annual North Vs South Motocross.
This year’s event will be held on the Giles Property on Brookby Rd Hawksbury (at the end of the back straight of the Hawksbury Road race circuit of the 60s and 70s).
Started in 1956 the Nth vs Sth Motocross was run continuously for 32 years around New Zealand, but then went into recess due to financial restraints.
The event was restarted in 1994 and found a home with the Marlborough Motorcycle club in Blenhiem.
Although having only won the trophy six times in 39 events, the SOUTH looked strong for this year’s event, however injury has robbed them of two of their stars, Moston Wadsworth of Blenhiem and Cocky Meadows from Christchurch.
The NORTH has also been struck by injury, losing Jonathon Burkhart of Masterton and Richard Adamson of New Plymouth. Unfortunately for the South, they are replaced by Paul Wibley from Marton, the current NZ Cross Country champion, current Enduro Champion and NZ No 6 in Motocross. Along with Daryl Hurley from Hawera, who currently lies 4th in the Aussie Supercross Champs and finished 3rd at the Aussie Thumper Nationals last week.
But Sunday will see were the stars really are.
