Good news for young grand prix motocross racer Ben Townley, recovering in New Zealand from an injury received in Europe.
The 16-year-old has been told there is no fracture in his upper arm, despite concern around the site of an earlier break.
He does have a crack in his left shoulder but it is not as serious as first thought.
It is still not clear how soon the talented rookie can return to the world championship after his freak, off-track fall 10 days ago. But the signs are good.
“I’ll hear next week just what the recovery period will be but already we know it will be sooner rather than later,” said Townley from his home in Taupo where he is resting.
He says he is frustrated sitting out world championship 125 races where he has carved an impressive niche this year especially the next three which are on successive weekends starting this week.
“That’s Belgium, Switzerland and Germany gone from my calendar,” commented Townley. “But I’m looking forward to hearing how soon after that I can get back into it.”
A further three grand prix events are scheduled before the championship concludes in September.
Former New Zealand, Australian and Oceania junior champion, Townley is already 24th on the world ladder with his performances this season.
