Kawerau motorcycle dealer Tony Rees finished fourth overall in the Australian Formula Xtreme Series at Eastern Creek Raceway, just outside Sydney today, behind the three factory-backed Radar Team Yamaha riders.

The New Zealand Superbike Champion took out a third, two fourths and a fifth.
The racing was extremely close, the top five riders all broke Kevin Curtain’s lap record of 1min 33.8secs, Rees lapped the 3.93km circuit in 1min 33.6secs.
In three of his four races, Rees was no more than 0.7 of a second behind the leader. In the other, race three, Rees opted to use an old tyre, which proved to be the wrong move, and he could only manage a fifth.

“Apart from race three, I had a pretty good day. We qualified well and the racing was real close, but we just couldn’t get passed those blue Yamahas,” said Rees from Sydney tonight.
