New Zealand Superbike Champion, Kawerau’s Tony Rees qualified second fastest in the Formula Xtreme class at the 2001 Yamaha Tri-State Series today.
Queenslander Robbie Baird riding a Radar’s Team Yamaha YZF R1 with a 1min 11.729 seconds around the 2.62 km Narrellan circuit southwest of Sydney took Pole. Rees on his Bikebiz Yamaha R1 qualified second with a 1:11.983.
Rees fresh from his two wins in the Production Superbikes class last weekend at Philips Island, is set to continue his campaign for the Formula Xtreme Series tomorrow, in the four nine lap sprint races to be run for the series.
“ I am happy with today, we are only 0.254 seconds behind Baird, which puts us on the pace,” Rees said from Sydney tonight.
